Giaime Meloni

Giaime Meloni lives between two islands: Île-de-France and Sardinia. He uses photography as both a critical and sensitive tool to explore the complexity of the places we inhabit. His photographic practice, described as a form of magical realism, produces enigmatic documents that challenge the relationship between image and reality.

Among his most significant projects are Das Unheimliche (2017), which received a special mention at the Graziadei Prize and was exhibited at Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia in 2020, and Viaggi in Sardegna (2022), published by Caryatides, which concludes a body of work dedicated to documenting the post-industrial landscapes of his native region.

In 2019, he was selected by CAMERA – Italian Center for Photography for the Futures Photography programme, supported by the European Commission, and his project Columns of Cultures was shortlisted for the Francesco Fabbri Prize for Contemporary Photography. Since 2022, he has been Associate Professor at ENSA Paris-Est, where he investigates modes of representing contemporary territories.

His works, often presented through exhibitions and artists’ books, invite viewers to reconsider their relationship with the territories they inhabit. For Giaime, image-making is a form of research—a way of exploring alternative possibilities for living in and engaging with the world.
