Cveto Marsič (1960, Koper, Slovenia) trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. His artistic practice focuses mainly on painting and drawing, while performance and land art have played a significant role in his experiential approach, serving as both a lived experience and a point of departure for his drawing and painting works.
The relationship between nature and artistic expression forms the creative foundation of his work. His position and function are oriented toward creation driven by an internal necessity, with his artworks reflecting a sense of primordial emotion.
His academic education, strongly rooted in classical training yet eclectic in nature, initially led him in Ljubljana to engage with figurative painting in parallel with conceptual art. His later exposure to the rich Iberian pictorial tradition, both historical and contemporary, had a notable influence on his work. His Berlin period immersed him in contemporary German painting, which left a lasting mark on his style. Upon returning to Southern Europe, he connected with the Turin art scene, invited by Franz Paludetto to the art studio at the Castle of Rivara. He later moved to Lisbon, where the intense Atlantic light deeply influenced this phase of his work. His journey through Southern Europe continued, working primarily in his studio in the natural park of the Salt Pans of Piran and another studio in Spain. His work delves into a profound exploration of the land, which informs his artistic creation.
He has exhibited extensively and intensively with galleries in several countries, primarily in Italy, Germany, and Spain.
His work is part of collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rijeka, Obalne Galerije in Slovenia, Es Baluard Museum in Palma de Mallorca, IVAM in Valencia, Ernesto Ventós Collection, ARCO Foundation, Morat Foundation in Freiburg, European Investment Bank, Caja de Ahorros de Asturias, Lah, Muñoz-Cávez, Röpke-Estrada, the House of Alba, António Pérez Foundation, among others.
