SETTANTAVOLTESETTE | Paola Mattioli

Nuova Galleria Morone presents Paola Mattioli’s personal exhibition  SETTANTAVOLTESETTE curated by Vittoria Coen.  In the year of her seventieth birthday, the artist’s career, which began in the second half of the Seventies, is remembered. The exhibition is articulated in a path that summarizes in about seventy photographs (almost all in black and white) the artistic career of the photographer, through a selection of some works drawn from her most renowned series Autoritratti (1977), Carcere (1999), Nanetti (2000), Capolavoro (2003). The project and its architecture are part of Paola Mattioli’s research, who  dealt with political and current topics, even very strong ones, but never with the mind of the reporter, instead with an inward look more concerned with a deep investigation that interests the subject...

BRUMAS | Elizabeth Aro

In her first personal exhibition at Nuova Galleria Morone, Elizabeth Aro presents a set of artworks that emphasize her constant attention to the dexterity and the variety of materials used to create the works. Brumas is the title of a large graphite drawing (240 cm x 240 cm x 160 cm, 2014/2018) in which the temperature of the fog and the uncertain light of the early morning appear, when the forest is suspended in moisture in a light without sun. It is placed on the black wall and converses with Estudio de Nubes, 56 graphite drawings (cm 20 x cm 20, 2014/2018), where the sky’s movement between flashes of light and darkness acts as a counterpoint to the Brumas wood. Everything helps to...

IL PARADISO? UN LIBRO | Meri Gorni

In the world of Meri Gorni, life and literature are mixed together — and how could it be otherwise? In her artistic language, signs, drawings, words and sentences are closely intertwined; in their growth — comparable to that of a weed — they also take possession of objects and photographs. It is difficult to define Gorni’s work: she is first and foremost a teller of tales that are composite and composed through a skilled process of assembling visual and verbal fragments that often take the form of a book, or give rise — together with the inclusion of objects — to installations having a strongly evocative character. Her stories — which are never sensational — remain partially sketched out in...

COLLEZIONISTA DI ECHI | José Barrias

Nuova Galleria Morone presents Collector of Echoes, a Jose Barrias' solo show, curated by Elisabetta Longari. This work is the reconstruction of a double symbolic register that refers to both the wholly Italian tradition of the perspective construction and the other one located beyond the horizon line and projected into imaginary places that are impossibly real, yet audaciously certain. On the one hand, there is a language, a culture and an adopted city and, on the other, there are traces left by one’s mother tongue, a country and a culture that has become familiar with the horizon in order to describe perspective as if it were a journey linked to returns and imaginary echoes. I was inspired by this transitive proximity...

STORIA DI UN’OMBRA | Antonio Marchetti Lamera

Nuova Galleria Morone is proud to present, from the 9th of June to the 14th of July, “Storia di un'ombra”, the second personal show in the gallery, of Antonio Marchetti, curated by Angela Madesani. The shadow, transitional element, evanescent emblem, has been the center of Antonio Marchetti interest for years, in which, the analysis of language is fundamental. The sign, the design is the core instrument of his research which has obvious roots in the classical Greek art, not only of artistic matrix, but also philosophical. Marchetti is interested in the concept of the shadow itself, in the projections of the real appearing in our eyes. At first he has painted natural shadows, tenth urban ones and now, in his current...

Ettore Frani, Ricucire il cielo

RICUCIRE IL CIELO | Ettore Frani

Ricucire il cielo is the title of the first solo show of Ettore Frani in Mlilan. The exhibition, specially realized for the spaces of the gallery, is composed of the last cycle of works. Through them, as always in his pictorial search, the artist investigates the aspect and the mystery of Nature, with which mankind has always been in communion. With the exclusive use of oil painting on lacquered board, the artist creates highly symbolic and evocative images trying to bring out what can not be represented. The focal themes within which his research moves are: the spirituality of man, the sacredness and mystery of nature. His poetic language is nourished by subtraction and aiming towards essentiality, that becomes mystical vision,...

SE IL MONDO FOSSE QUADRO SAPREI DOVE ANDARE… | Fausta Squatriti

The city of Milan pays tribute to artist Fausta Squatriti, who was born here in 1941, with Se il mondo fosse quadro, saprei dove andare… (If the world were square, I’d know my way), a project curated by Elisabetta Longari, and divided into three parallel events. The Triennale houses a selection of twenty artworks traces back the artist’s production from her early experimentations – made when she was only 16 years old – to the most recent multi-medium polyptychs; the Gallerie d’Italia – Piazza Scala, with Francesco Tedeschi as a co-curator, presents works included in the collection of Intesa Sanapolo, displaying some of the large Black Sculptures (1972-1985) and a series of works from the 1980s, never shown in Italy...

Roberto Rizzo

MERIDIANI E PARALELLI | Roberto Rizzo

Roberto Rizzo (1967) is a painter, in the most complete sense of the word, beyond the easy and convenient label of “figurative“ and “abstract“ painters. Since the mid 80's, his research has a dialectic relation with the world that surround him but also with Art History. He has a deep reflection, a complete stance fronting a more and more compliant artistic panorama. We live in a maddened consumer society, not only in the economic sense of the word. In our era, pictures are devalued and often lose their meaning. Rizzo follows the footsteps of Fontana, Burri, Castellani, Lo Savio. These cutting-edge artists were aware of the history that precede them. As for them and for him, painting needs to enter an historic...

Urpflanze

URPFLANZE, la natura dell’idea

The exhibition originates from the crucial principles of the studies by J.W. Goethe which are in the main expressed in the text titled The Metamorphosis of Plants published in 1790 treating his reflections regarding the relationship that man establishes with nature. In fact, it was during Goethe's botanical studies that he discovered that inside the infinite variety and multiplicity of nature there is a unitary and primogenial element. Goethe believed that all plant forms can be derived from a sole plant, an original plant, made up of few, infinitely changeable and duplicable elements. The primordial plant, the Urpflanze as Goethe termed it, allows us to create a synthesis between the individual and the universe, between the sensitive and the ideal, allowing...
